My Studio sign - so I'll take it seriously
A fun thing I've been wanting to do with
these antlers Chuck's friend gave me.
A while back my friend Tracy came over and helped me start organizing my
studio. She suggested I move my
standing worktable to the middle of the room, which I liked very much.
I left it that way for 3 weeks but I started putting things
under it and those things started creeping out from under it. Then my chair couldn’t move all the way out
from under the desk because the stuff under the table was sticking too far out
and I started not being able to get around the chair. I got frustrated because everything was so
close together and closed in I didn’t want to go in there at all.
I liked the layout that way but the room is too small for it and my chair kept hitting the table. I also kept tripping because it
was too cramped. I realized I let the
room get messy and cramped so I wouldn’t have to work, (not on purpose). I decided to move my computer in the studio
too, which was a bad idea because I didn’t want to go into the mess to use it. This meant no art was getting done and now no
writing, blogging or any online work either.
One day I walked in, sat down, and decided it was time to do
something about the mess. It was time to start working and stop procrastinating. So I started moving the things I could. I put the table under the
window with the white drawers under it, opening the room back up. It was like a breath of fresh air!
I picked up the rest of the room but didn't finish
organizing completely. I will do that in
smaller steps, with a timer, and keep surfaces cleaned off so I can use them
and get work done.
Once I
took care of cleaning off the surfaces and making space to work I actually
started working again, yay!
I did one more thing to help me get going. I made a “my studio” sign over the door.
I have really struggled with calling it "my studio" because
that would mean I have to take it seriously. Eventually, I’m going to change the sign and
make a new one with my studio name – Morning Star Studio. I’ll use the logo I designed on the art blog
and maybe make business cards too. This
will be a big step for me to start really thinking of this as my “work”.
this has been an extremely frustrating painting.
I've actually painted over the sky 3x to get it
the way I want it. I'm hoping I won't get frustrated
and paint over it again!
